Top Medal Contenders: PV Sindhu

Ace Indian shuttle PV Sindhu is one of the top medal contenders for India at the Paris Olympics 2024. Sindhu will be eager for a hat trick of medals at the grand event.

The Indian contingent is once again heading into the Olympics 2024 to bring glory to the nation with their outstanding achievements at the quadrennial event set to be hosted in Paris, France. A total of 117 athletes will take the field at the grandest sporting event with an aim to bring laurels for the country. One of the strongest medal contenders from India is the badminton star PV Sindhu.

Sindhu’s career has been on a rise ever since her historic silver medal win in the 2016 Rio Olympics 2016. The 29-year-old hasn’t had the best years heading into the grand event battling through injuries but is determined to clinch a record hat-trick of medals by an Indian athlete.

Sindhu was born on 5th July 1995 in Hyderabad to national-level volleyball players P. V. Ramana and P. Vijaya. She drew inspiration from Pullela Gopichand at an early age to pick up the badminton racket. Sindhu got her first Badminton lessons at the badminton courts of the Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications in Secunderabad from Mehboob Ali.

She later joined Pullela Gopichand’s Gopichand Badminton Academy. Sindhu tasted success at an early stage of his career being a prodigy and rose through the ranks in the Indian badminton circuit. Her first major achievement came when she became India’s first-ever Asian Junior Champion beating Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in the final 18–21, 21–17, 22–20.
