Indian Olympic Association gives warm send-off to the to the Indian Contingent for the XVIII Asian Games Jakarta-Palembang 2018



Indian Olympic Association organised a mega “send-off”ceremony for the XVIII Asian Games Jakarta-Palembang 2018 bound Indian contingent at hotel Hyatt Regency in New Delhi today.

The Chief Guest Honourable Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore wished goodluck to Indian athletes and officials for the Asian Games 2018.

India will see participation of 572 athletes from 36 different sports including Archery, Athletics, Boxing, Bowling, Bridge, Canoe-Kayak (Sprint, Slalom &Traditonal Boat Race), Cycling, Equestrian, Fencing, Gymnastics, Golf, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Kabaddi, Karate, Kurash, PencakSilat, Rollersports, Rowing, Sailing, Sepaktakraw, Shooting, Squash, Aquatics (Swimming & Diving), Sport Climbing, Tennis, Taekwondo, Soft Tennis, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling and Wushu. The games will be held in Jakarta-Palembang from 18th August to 2nd September 2018. 

The contingent will be led by Chef de Mission Mr. BrijbhushanSharan Singh, MP and four Deputy Chefs de Mission namely Mr. R.K. Sacheti, Col. SatyavratSheoron, Mr.Balbir Singh Kushwaha and Dr. Dev Kumar Singh. Li Ning is the official sports apparel partner and Raymond is the official styling partner of Team India.

In accordance with the IOC guidelines, Olympic participants pin was also awarded to slider Shiva Keshavan and skier Jagdish Kumar who represented India in the 2018 Pyeong Chang Winter Olympic Games. 

Dr. NarinderDhruvBatra, President Indian Olympic Association said “ It gives me immense pleasure to announce that the Indian Olympic Association is sending around 800 strong contingent to the 18th Asian Games Jakarta-Palembang 2018 comprising 572 athletes across 36 sports. Representing your country is always a matter of pride and honour, and may you set a precedent in the true spirit of the game both on and off the field.  I wish the entire contingent the very best for the 18th Asian Games Jakarta-Palembang 2018”.

Wishing good luck to the Indian contingent, Mr. Rajeev Mehta, Secretary General, Indian Olympic Association said “I urge our athletes to perform their personal best upholding the true values of sport at all times. I wish the athletes, coaches and supporting staff all the very best for the 18th Asian Games Jakarta-Palembang 2018. May the Indian flag fly high and our athletes continue to bring laurels “.

Speaking on the occasion, ShabnamPanjwani; Group Head; Marketing & Communications, Edelweisssaid, “Our athletes have risen above all odds and tackled many adversities to reach this stage. Their #BeUnlimited spirit inspires us and we remain committed to their welfare and wish them luck as they head to Jakarta" 

Representatives from Edelweiss, Motul, Borosil, Nippon, Li Ning and Raymond, partners of the Indian Olympic Association were also present at the send-off ceremony extending their support to the Indian contingent.
