India’s first appearance at the Summer Olympic Games as an independent country was at the 1948 London Games. India sent its biggest ever contingent till now with 79 athletes to the London Games. An all men's Team India took part in 39 events across 10 sports discipline, also participating in 4 team events including Football, Water Polo, Cycling and Hockey.
